Cabot Creamery is a cooperative of 1,200 dairy farm families located throughout New York and New England. Cabot manages four plants in three states, employing over 1,000 people who make "The World's Best" cheese and dairy products. Cabot distributes these products in its own stores, online, and at grocers nationwide.


Previous to John Galt, Cabot was having trouble with its forecasting process. They lacked a statistical modeling tool and therefore had trouble calculating forecast accuracy. They also had limited visibility into orders, shipments, forecast, and budget, as these were managed in separate systems, which created needless and inefficient team interactions. Cabot was also unable to forecast per customer or aggregate the forecast to provide a consolidated demand number for production. This led to production wastefulness and large amounts of unsaleable product.

Because of these challenges, the company’s expenses were unnecessarily high. Cabot needed a solution that could remedy these inefficiencies, improve their process and reduce costs.


Cabot sought a solution that could make improvements in their process, provide visibility across the organization as well as measure and increase forecast accuracy. After an extensive search, Cabot chose John Galt Solutions. John Galt’s Atlas Planning Suite demonstrated multiple abilities to solve Cabot’s problems and grow with them as their process matured.

Specifically, Cabot chose the Atlas Planning Suite because it was easy to set up and make adjustments to the configuration. Atlas also provided multiple other benefits that Cabot needed, including:

  • Event and promotion forecasting
  • Multiple regression analysis

Cabot also got the benefit of working with the John Galt team to refine the process during implementation. The compressed implementation time of 3 months was also a deciding factor for Cabot.


Cabot Cheese has experienced numerous benefits on both the demand and supply planning sides since implementing the Atlas Planning Suite, resulting in reduced costs across the board.

On the demand side, forecast accuracy has improved markedly as well as the ability to measure improvements over time. Additionally, the dynamic forecast reporting to the executive planning team has enabled better communication and enhanced collaboration.
